Biography

Dr George Melillos is the Marine Safety & Security sector leader. He coordinates and manages various research projects at the ERATOSTHENES CoE & EXCELSIOR H2020 of the Cyprus University of Technology. Besides, he is a Special Teaching Scientist at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics. He holds a Diploma in Military Science from the Non-Commissioned Officer Army Academy, Trikala (Greece), a Diploma in Computer Programming/Programmer at the School of Computer, Programmers of Hellenic Army General Staff, Athens (Greece), a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Software Engineering at the Omiros College, Athens (Greece), a B.Sc. (Hons) in Computing at the University of Huddersfield (UK), an M.A (Master of Arts) in ICT and Education at the University of Leeds (UK), and PhD in Remote Sensing, GIS and Space Technology at the CUT. His research focuses on detecting Buried Structures and Maritime Surveillance for security and safety in Cyprus using Remote Sensing, Space and GIS techniques and Big Data Analytics. As the primary author, he has published over 50 scientific publications in prestigious journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. He won international recognition, attended as a speaker in several conferences/workshops, and organised international seminars. He is an academic editor for IntechOpen and a referee/reviewer for IEEE Access, the International Journal of Remote Sensing, MDPI and ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
